i'm beginning to feel like the divorced parent who only gets to see their kids every second weekend and on holidays. the lula shop has been a wee bit neglected. the website. the blog. etc. but you see, i have a straight up awesome and very time consuming new gig that i'm just beyond stoked to be doing. yes, i still have my shop. yes, i constantly change my mind as to whether or not i'm going to keep it going or shut it down {it's a time thing ya'll} and yes, i'm constantly scouting out cool and unique kids wear to stock in it. so like everything else in my life, i just take it day by day and enjoy the ride.

and that's how i spend my thursdays + fridays . lola has been in gymnastics for awhile and was invited to try out for the competitive program at a club that competes at the olympic level {she's four}. well, she ruled that try out, and is now training to compete. and just a note. i hate ferry rides. i have been commuting for six years and i am still THAT person who you'll find pale faced and ready to barf over the side of the boat. for realsie. the things you do for your kids, right?

because i leave the house so early for shoots, the shop, etc... it's dark and because i get home so late... it's dark.. that i usually have no time to take pictures. but on thursdays, it's lola's world and i just live in it. i clear my schedule and we shop, eat, and she trains for hours at gymnastics.. and then we get to chill some more. it's the most awesome feeling when a four year old just wants to hang out with you all day and thinks your the coolest cat on the block.

my super rad friend peggy sent me a copy of nido {a german family-ish/ lifestyle-ish magazine}. as i was looking through it, i came across this photo of a mash up of cardboard and other gnarly things making up what looks to be a cool doll house of sorts...and died. of course i don't know any german except "bier" but with peggy's help, i was able to translate the title from its german text: the house of bits and bobs... well in this bottom pic.. do you see the living room with the record player? you see those records kids? patti smith horses and the stones let it bleed. hell yes. whoever designed this deserves high fives and a round of krombacher. immediately. dig it.

"That's the question being batted around in reference to Thylane Loubry Blondeau, the 10-year-old model whose suggestive photo spreads have ignited a debate over the sexualization of young girls.

"Good Morning America" took a look at some of Blondeau's recent photo spreads for Vogue Paris, which feature the young girl in lipstick, high heels and tight dresses, and a slew of smoldering "come hither..." stares.

Although Blondeau, the daughter of soccer player Patrick Blondeau and reporter-turned-fashion designer Véronika Loubry, appeared in the Vogue Paris shoot with other young models, her looks were more mature and for many readers, more discomforting.

A little research shows that little Blondeau has been at this for a while, frequently photographed for editorials (Fashionista has several here), the cover of Vogue Enfants (see pic below) and even walking in Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring 2006 runway show as a child extra.

On the site, the blogger argues that the mini model looks "stunning", saying, "I just wished that some people would see the beauty in them too" and "stop having such a judgemental attitude."

However most critics are saying that with the appearance of an arguably-sexy 10-year-old model, the line has been drawn. And as "Good morning America" reminds us, thirteen-year-old Elle Fanning for Marc by Marc Jacobs and fourteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld for Miu Miu raised a few eyebrows."

so i have been starting to prepare for the opening of the lula shop in its new location december 1st. we'll be offering clothing, accessories, and other rad pieces i find. one decision i made was we will now be focusing on the 6 - 16 year old demographic {although that being said, we'll have toddler - 12 month to 4 years - once in awhile}. i'm really stoked on buying for youth and cannot wait to provide an alternative for cool and fashionable kids and youth where i live. we will also continue selling a small amount of kick ass vintage goodies {including motorcycle tees, playsuits, and bitchin' dresses}. oh, we'll also have our online shop back up too.

my mother had the original print of this book which i first read when i was too young to really understand it. sex. drugs. rock n roll. supposedly written by an anonymous 15 year old girl but there is speculation it wasn't. doesn't matter. as a 15 year old girl who knew this lifestyle {don't do drugs} back in the day, it comes across pretty authentic. it's still a great read. it was made into a tv movie in the 70s which i've never seen but i put up what was on youtube. now i'm not condoning drug use or trying to glamorize it... but if you ever have a 15 year old daughter getting into drugs what would you do?

so this is what 5:00am looks like in harsh lighting, no make up, 20 hour days, on set, no caffeine, and no photoshop... *kissy kissy* ftw. at least my legs look good in their ksubi jeans. yeah baby.

2 more days and i get a break. which will consist of emails (since i'm currently not around any internet service except my phone) and other random stuff. word.
